The point about freezing rain is not that it is a hybrid of ice and rain, but rain that turns to ice.

So really it is not glaci(o)pluvo but glacia pluvo.

It is so cold that, either through being super-cooled, or the ground being very cold, it freezes on landing.

On black ice, I suspect that this term may be international.

Glatiso seems from the definition in PIV to be any slippery patch whether formed by an icy covering of compacted snow or by freezing rain hitting the tarmac. The source language for glatiso may be German.

I don't recognize completely 'glatiso'. In German News 'black ice' warnings are named 'Blitzeis'(instant ice) caused by 'überfrierender Nässe' (freezed over moisture). After that happened the ground is 'spiegelglatt' (looks uncurl and feels slippery like a frozen mirror plate).

Another type of 'Blitzeis' is 'Hagel' (hail) and 'Graupel'.

I was guessing that from Google Translate's offering of Glatteis. But now that I look at that, I suppose that is just glata glacio.

'Glatt' determines more excactly 'Eis'. I.e. there also excists 'Gletschereis'. I think that makes written German very difficult to understand.

But according Mulaik's Interlingua book page 35 '... English can use nouns as adjectives (too), but Interlingua cannot ...'. He mention excample sentence 'This winter weather is difficult'. In German it would be 'Dieses Winterwetter ist schwierig.' even if I could say 'Dieses winterliche Wetter ist schwierig', too.

Generally I like that kind of bloomy kind of paraphrasing like Interlingua is concepted. I also try to write Esperanto that way. Seems to be that also that concept of Romanic languages for paraphrasing seems to make that need to mark substantives and adjectives obsolete.

Off-topic: Duden should put more efforts into improving German that way other languages show in action instead of mangleing it how the did in 1996 with its language reform published and set officialy.
