"A classic is something that everyone wants to have read and no one wants to read."
"Klasikaĵo estas io, kio ĉiu volas esti leginta, kaj neniu volas legi."

Is this correct usage of the compound tense? And I've never encountered this particular case before in writing, but I also considered "...ĉiuj volas esti legintaj"—is the adjectival agreement necessary here? I'd also like to express this idea in simple tense if possible, but I'm a little stumped as to how.

Missing accusative | Mankas akuzativo: kio -> kion (+ io -> tio ???)

> I also considered "...ĉiuj volas esti legintaj"

ankaux eblas ???

> I'd also like to express this idea in simple tense if possible,
> but I'm a little stumped as to how

"Klasikaĵo estas tio, per kies plenumita legado cxiuj volas
fanfaroni, sed kion neniu volas legi."

unsure | necerta

Another option, my attempt to preserve the parallelism: Klasikaĵo estas tio, de kio ĉiu volas esti leginto, kaj neniu leganto. I feel that using the noun form better conveys the intent - people "want to be one / the kind of person who has read it."

And another attempt to convey the meaning without necessarily following the form: Klasikaĵo estas tio, kion ĉiu laŭdire legis kaj neniu laŭvole legos.

As Clarence pointed out, if you do want to use the form "estas tio, kion oni legas" you'll need the accusative on the 'kion', since that's what one reads. And yeah, "estas tio, kio" seems more suitable than "estas io, kio" in this case, since it's essentially a tongue-in-cheek definition of what a classic is. (compare "is that which" ).

Superb. I would like to add that to eo.wiktionary.org/wiki/Vortaro_angla-Esperanta as an example for the verb "want", with your permission.

There is nothing wrong with 'deziras esti leginta'. This is totally permitted by the grammar of Esperanto, even if such a construction may be infrequent.

It can be done with simple tenses:

Klasikaĵo estas io, kion legus ĉiu, sed efektive legas neniu.

or

Klasikaĵo estas io, kion volus legi ĉiu, sed emas legi neniu.

With a compound form, I offer:

Klasikaĵo estas io, kion ĉiu ŝatus esti leginta, sed emas legi neniu.
