Hi, I started to receive the word of the day but immediately noticed that the text is littered with unusual characters. For example:

2. Ne komuna al diversaj situacioj; distingiÄanta de la ceteraj:

Por ĉiu tago Åi havis apartan robon.
Al ĉiu sanktulo apartan kandelon.

Why is my email client displaying this: ĉ ?

What does it mean?

Either the sender of the mail does not specify a character encoding or a wrong character encoding, or your mail client does not respect the specified character encoding.

Change Latin 1 (ISO 8859-1)Unicode (UTF-8)! – See:

That happened to me once, only it was in a quote in a lernu forum message I was making on the tablet. All the "hat" letters turned into As with markings on them, just like what you have there. When a friend of mine sent me an email with some of those letters in it, it also wigged out, but showed some numbers and symbols rather than those As. Change your encoding settings and see if that helps.
