Hey everyone, I have a quick question.. I tried finding the answer, and couldn't find one.. So, what is the word for headboard in Esperanto? I'm looking into making my own headboard, and I'm trying to tell someone about it, but I'm not sure what the right word is.. Also, is there a term in Esperanto for DIY (do it yourself)? I'm appreciative of any input. Thanks!

headboard: kaptabulo, litkapo

When I read this question and the first answer, I didn't know what a head board was. I had to google it. Neither did I understand the first Esperanto word, but I intuitively interpreted correctly the second one. Hence I would advise to use the latter.

Thank you very much! I truly appreciate it! Yeah, I think litkapo sounds more understandable to me as well. ridulo.gif

Thank you both very much, and thank you for helping me DuckFiasco! The term memfara, is that easily understandable by anyone that speaks Esperanto?

I prefer 'litkapo' myself. It neatly translates the English synonym of 'headboard' viz. 'bedhead', with which I was more familiar as a child.

If it helps remove any doubt, litokapo is the word for “headboard” in the Praktika Bildvoraro de Esperanto.

Not sure about DIY, though. Memfara sounds like “self-making” (memferma klapo is a self-closing valve). Catalan, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian have more or less literal translations (fes-ho tu mateix, hágalo usted mismo, faça você mesmo, and сделай сам); many others simply use the English. You might consider “la etiko ‘faru vi mem’”.
