Hey everyone.. I was curious, is there a word for herbalism? Also, what would the word be for herbalist? Would it be herbisto?

Herbkuracado seems ok, and has a Vikipedio entry. I guess herbmedicino would be ok too.

Herbalist would be herbkuracisto.

My Wells dictionary also lists 'herbapotekisto' for herbalist. He has no entry for herbalism.

I guess it depends whether by herbalist you mean a herb doctor or someone who sells herbs. For the latter the definition in Wells is probably better.

Well, traditionally an herbalist is someone trained in helping people with their ailments with natural medicine. Right now, there is no official education to learn to be an herbalist, and so I have to either teach myself, or find a master herbalist to study under as an apprentice. I want to help people with natural medicine. So, it would be an herbalist that heals people with herbs.

Also, what about herbismo for herbalism, and herbisto for herbalist? I'm still a beginner.. Well, post-beginner. I wouldn't be able to read, or write much without my dictionary.. malgajo.gif I'm trying really hard to become fluent in Esperanto, but it's really hard for me. I forget the words easily, and I feel like I'm very stupid if I can't even learn the easiest language on the planet. I'll never be able to learn Italian like I want if I can't even learn Esperanto.. malgajo.gif

They're a bit general for my liking. Herbalism is the use of plants specifically for medicinal purposes, but herbismo might be any doctrine or school of thought relating to herbs.

Note: "herbo" may be also "marijuana", so "herbisto" may be "dragdealer" too.

Herbalismo is a word I have heard.

You might want to contact Stano Marček at some point. He gave a talk on "kuracaj plantoj" at an Esperanto conference last year. He might have a good idea of the vocabulary used in this field.
