What is your primary incentive for Learning Esperanto?

Duko (Wasifu wa mtumiaji) 15 Julai 2014 8:50:28 asubuhi

Because I can. It doesn't take any time away from other fun stuff to learn EO.

I wonder why idealism is not in your list. A lot of people wil learn Esperanto because they think it will be better for the world in many aspects (I hope ridulo.gif)

Wanted to say I do it cause I'm forced on gunpoint, but I'd be lying... I'm just a language nerd.

I think it is the most logic solution for a global language. I don't think it would bring any peace in the world, nor I want such a thing, but it would save a lot of time to billions of people and a huge amount of money.

I went with "Other" because I support the general ideal of a constructed international auxiliary, and I think Esperanto has the greatest likelihood of success, such as it is in minuscule terms, given that realistically I think that almost no conIAL has much likelihood of success against the juggernaut of English.

My first (chronologically speaking) motivation was language. Other incentives in the list are answers to the question "why am I still in the esperanto movement?"

I put for fun because I enjoy it but I'm also learning it along with my oldest daughter who introduced me to the language. I think it's fascinating.

I put for fun, but idealism would be another good option. If you gave a a genie in a bottle and I got three wishes, one of them would be that everyone knows Esperanto, and then possibly another would be that it was the official IAL.

Esperanto is a fun hobby, but at the end of the day I'm not going to bother if I don't somewhat believe in its goals.

Alkanadi:What is your primary incentive for Learning Esperanto?
Partly because it's fun, and partly because I'm a language nerd, but I selected "other" because my primary reason is actually related to OCPD, or something like that. I want things to be regular and consistent, and have been disturbed by the inconsistency of English for as long as I can remember. I intensely dislike irregular verbs, and irregular nouns, so when I discovered Esperanto online and read that it doesn't have those things, I couldn't resist; it was love at first sight ridulo.gif! It is so psychologically satisfying that I can't live without it; I'd rather put up with all the naysaying of my friends and family, and the loneliness of being the only Esperantist I know. The afore-mentioned grammatical reasons are what got me into it, at that point I didn't care whether anyone used it or not, or what its purpose in existence was. Since then I have become more interested in the E-o community, and connecting with people in other parts of the world.
