In Nürnberg (Nuremberg for monolingual English speakers) there is an Esperanto Straße (Esperanto Street for you monos!)

Oh, wow. Apparently there are inscriptions in Esperanto on discs carried by Voyager 1 and Voyager 2!* I didn't know that, is that just in case all the space aliens actually do speak Esperanto (as I've said all along )?

*At least, that's what Wikipedia claims(see also), but I can't find any indication of that on the NASA website or anywhere else.

(We strive to live in peace with the peoples of the whole world, of the whole cosmos.) Esperanto is one out of 55 languages presented.

It isn't one of the 55 languages in the second track; it's on the third track: UN greeting and whale greetings. (Whale greetings - seriously!) Here is a page that has all the media from the disk; click the record in the upper left to play the sounds; the Esperanto message is near the end of the third track. Unfortunately I don't see a way to skip to a certain part of the track.

It's sometimes possible to change the name of your street by petitioning your local government. This is more so the case when you live in the countryside, and especially if it's something awful like "County Road B116".

You contact them for the procedure, and if necessary prepare a presentation to the zoning board (which is who usually handles it in the US)- just explain briefly the history of Esperanto, the ideals of mutual understanding and that you think the name change might contribute to awareness in some small way. You can also toss in that it shows up on google searches, thus increasing the visibility of the community on the internet. Have the local newspaper publish a short blurb about it. Local towns and counties love free publicity.

A few weeks later a guy shows up, sticks a street sign on the corner, and now you have a cool address like:

Smalltown, NM 88030

I do live out in the country, but... Well, imagine that you live on S. Richardson Rd.* And Mr. and Mrs. Richardson, who live on the property next to yours, happen to own most of the property in the area; well, changing the road name may not be so easy! Unless, of course, you can convince the Richardsons that Esperanto is really awesome, so much that they would rather have the road named after it than themselves... But that doesn't seem very likely. So I may have to leave that kind of activity to the residents of Road 17/21. Who will never do it, but whatever.
