Decades ago, my grandparents were heavily involved in the world of Esperanto. My grandfather spoke it fluently. My grandmother was always skeptical of how widespread Esperanto was, so my grandfather managed to get a message put in a popular Esperanto publication asking people to send postcards in Esperanto from around the world, to prove to my Grandmother that Esperanto was indeed widespread. They received dozens of cards, but have not kept them. My Gran now wishes she had. I want to replicate this project again for her. Is anyone interested in sending a postcard from wherever you live to me, with a friendly greeting in Esperanto? I live in the UK. If I receive any, I will present them to her as a gift from the Esperanto-speakers of the world. My address is:
17 Haversham Close
Three Bridges
Crawley
United Kingdom
RH10 1LB
Please make it out to 'Blanche', my grandmother. Thank you for reading!

mattthomas117:... They received dozens of cards, but have not kept them. My Gran now wishes she had...
Postage costs more than when I used to write to pen pals decades ago, but as soon as I find out the correct international postage to put on this here postcard that I found in my desk, it's going in the mail! Years ago, I did go to visit my pen-pals in (London) England, (Bayeux) France, and (Darmstadt) Germany; but I didn't learn any Esperanto until 1988.

Thank you very very much! This will be a Christmas present to her, so I'll pass on a message from her to anyone who sends a postcard if I can.

You'll receive better responses if you post this in the Esperanto forums. Here you'll get mainly Americans, Australians, and Brits replying to you. I made a quick translation of your post. I'd suggest the topic to be "Peto al Esperantistoj" or something similar (Request to Esperantists). I would put it in the "About Everything Else" forum, or possibly in "Questions". I could also post this if you like.

Ĉi tiu estas tradukita peto por Esperantistoj:
----------------------

17 Haversham Close
Three Bridges
Crawley
United Kingdom
RH10 1LB

Bonvolu fari ĝin por "Blanche", mia avino. Dankon!

Postage costs more, all right! It's gotten downright ridiculous! Apparently, to mail a postcard internationally costs $1.15... Yeah, that's just crazy. But I'll see if I can manage it...
