Hey ye all ( : PP ), I saw that the thread was still alive so I updated the first post a little.

To begin with, this ĉjo/njo topic came up because I'm thinking of translating a story that has monsters in it, and for example, the main character might be a "female" or "male" in the beginning but later on turns into a monster and people start always talking as if they're inhuman and not gendered anymore etc etc. Plus, well, there's an angel which is intersex (and a big point was made about it, so it's necessary to be able to show the difference) but they're also someone's best friend and that person talks about them very intimately, so...

Anyway I think I said it before, but I feel like I will just use ĉjo uniformly across all genders and note that I'm using that way. It's not because I think "jo" or "rjo" are bad ideas, but because I'm just personally really reluctant to introduce any new words to EO and would rather bend usage a little instead. But then again, the more I think about it and the more I think of scenarios where it would need to be used, the more I feel like we need to have some uniquely neuter suffix... Ahh but my brain is telling me not to introduce even more words to EO so I think ĉjo it will be.

Kara marbuljon, mia kara marbuljon, mia marbuljon... Such measures are used instead of -njo, -cxjo in all the languages which lack specific endings for intimacy. Would that be a possibility? One just has to be aware that sometimes something like that will be interpreted as irony.

I should have used quotaton marks. What I intended to express was that saying "Kara Marbuljon" instead of "Marbucxjo" aux "Marbunjo" would be a gender-neutral option. Perhaps even "Mia kara Marbu" or "Marbu mia" or "Marbu-mia-Marbu". When addressing somebody informally we often can make ourselves understood even without formal rules.
