I am somewhat of a Lernu newbie, and apologise if there is already a topic on this in these boards.
I was wondering if anyone uses Memrise to learn Esperanto and whether they find it useful. I would go further to ask if you prefer using Memrise to Lernu.
Its style reminds me of Rosetta Stone and I find that I'm progressing faster with this style. (I know: traitor).
I am interested in hearing other peoples' views.

For vocabulary drill Memrise is a good complement for a while, to check that you know the real official words and do not get used to the habit of making fake-Esperanto by taking any English word and adding an -o or -as to it. But one should not use it for too long a period, because long before you reach 100 percent, you start memorising the wrong things. You do not memorise the word in a proper setting but instead look for clues in the English words, which have nothing to do with the actual meaning of the Esperanto word. It might be typing errors or the order in which synonymes are mentioned, or their number etc.

This message from a Glossika book I have pretty much can sum it up. But they are good if they come with some sort of reading, but not just memorising words.

Based on my own experience, the best way to learn a language is just memorizing vocabulary with flashcards. Memrise keeps all the flashcards organized for you. Also, they have an interesting way of testing you.
The downside with Memrise is that I can't go through cards for extra practice. I have to stick to their schedule.

I have to stick to their schedule.Actually you can; I've done it before, but you only get one point per answer when you do that. You just click on the "review" button, even if it's not blue. Or on the mobile app, you click a level with a checkmark, and it will tell you that the level isn't ready to review yet, do you want to practice? And you answer yes. But it doesn't seem possible to review an unfinished level in this way, nor to continue planting a level that the algorithm has decided is ready to review. I am always accidentally going to a different level because of this; it's one of the annoying little bugs of the mobile app that I hope will be worked out in a future version.

Topaz_Blue:Hello all.You're not being a "traitor" at all, Topaz...anything you do that exposes you to the language and enables you to use it and acquire it is "fair play". Different things work best for different people, AND (keep this in mind), the emphasis on different aspects of the language is going to be more relevant at different times during your language-learning journey than at other times. So, if at this stage in your path Memrize works well for you, go for it!
