So, what is there to do in Esperanto other than study?

I have 2 Esperanto books I like and I love Mazi en Gondolando, but I feel like there is nothing else in Esperanto, such a small language, sounds mostly pleasant though.

So is it hopeless for people like me who can't chat on Skype(no microphone) and don't have a car to drive many many miles to an Esperanto place?

I have seen some other things on Youtube, but none of them catch my interest anywhere close to Mazi.

I would try to speak in Esperanto but people don't like less than perfect speech so eh...

You can also try doing some of the courses here which have a teacher/someone to look over your texts. A lot of times i ended up keeping in touch with my tutor long after finishing the course.

Also, there's tons of literature (much of it free) available in Esperanto, if that interests you. But i think the best solution would be to convince a friend (or two or three) to learn it with you okulumo.gif

Esperanto group on facebook - now has over 15,000 members. Discuss anything you want to, share links, videos, etc. Only in Esperanto.
/r/esperanto - 2,800+ members currently. post funny pictures, ask questions in English or Esperanto, and keep up on news around esperantujo.
Ŝerco group on facebook - 1,800+ members currently. Post funny pictures, comics, videos, jokes, etc. If the pic is in another language provide an Esperanto translation.
/r/esperante - Almost up to 400 members now. Discuss weekly topics and anything else you like at random, only in Esperanto.
Ipernity - website that has a sizable esperanto community and an esperanto interface, sort of like a combination of MySpace and Flickr.
Verda-Chan - This is my site, it's an anonymous imageboard for discussing anything in Esperanto and posting any kind of images. You should be 18+ to visit it as the topics can be vulgar.
Esperanto IRC - There are always people online in this chatroom, although the pace of conversation is a bit slow at times.
There is an Esperanto minecraft server hosted by the Esperanimeo folks, and it has a fun active community if you like that game. Usually there's at least 2 people online, sometimes more!

Lots of classic literature in Esperanto on Project Gutenberg, almost all of it translations from other languages - Twain, Ibsen, Dickens, etc. That at least avoids the self-referential trap of so much Esperanto non-fiction, which tends to be about Esperanto itself.

I don't know if you've read Gerda Malaperis, which is intended for learners, but it has a movie version you can see on youtube.

Since you talked about improving your pronunciation, you can look up youtube videos featuring Ivo Lapenna, considered by many to be the best speaker of the language.

Does anyone know if there is a version of Mazi en Gondolando with decent sound? The audio on the YouTube version is terrible especially if you are wearing headphones which I usually do when focusing on Esperanto learning.

If you enjoy reading, browse the catalogue at katalogo.uea.org/katalogo.php?st=kat

For example, under 'Romanoj' you find 'La Malta Revo' (1994), "realisma romano pri Mikiel Anton Vassalli (1764-1829), la patro de la malta lingvo".

Next, copy the author and title into Google Books where you can read a generous portion of the novel while deciding whether to buy it: goo.gl/p8X3WR
