evanamd:It looks like this has come up before. I don't have a preference either way, I just noticed it was different from everything I`d seen until now
vikungen:And also I agree with the ones saying that the infinitive should rather be used than the imperative, I've seen this discussion up multiple times recently here: reddit.com/r/Esperanto and it is the i-ending that comes out as preferred.
Dang! Yeah, I probably should switch to the infinitive.

vikungen:Just checked out the site and wow, this is starting to look really good! Do you need any help with translation?
Thanks! It's really coming along. ridulo.gif

Most of the user-side translations are done but you are welcome to translate. I just posted the remaining ones.

Red_Rat_Writer:I can put together a decent logo,
but is the site non-profit?
Yeah. I have no plans on ever putting advertising on the site.

And I don't know if it makes a difference to what you create but the site will evenually get a green makeover and get rid of the facebook clone look. Don't know when that's happening though.

makis:Yes, the imperative is the first thing that comes to mind when I am doing the translation for this. It just always seemed to me that I'm telling the computer/webpage what to do. But have seen mostly the infinitive on webpages. I'll probably change it around when the translation is complete. Unless a mass revolt is coming soon! lango.gif
Ahh that's the logic! I always preferred the infinitive version, because the imperative always feels like the page is telling me to do things: "Like this thing now, human!".

Whereas the infinitive is short for "To like this, click here".

What if it was for a game? For example, to move the character to the right, it could say iru dekstra. Or would iri dekstra still be the best option?

Sorry for the question, but what are the differences to and the advantages over Esperanto social networks like in Facebook, in Ipernity or esperanto.com?

As for myself I did not know about Esperanto.com or the ipernity photo sharing site until you posted this. And I do not want an FB account. I am signed up for http://verduloj.com/ already and will now sign up for http://esperanto.com/. Until this thread the only forum knew was available was here at Lernu. It is nice to have several choices available. I will post an introductory message at each of these and see where I get the warmest reply. Thank you for your useful reply. ridulo.gif

Much like Paullen, the biggest reason I wanted to create verduloj is because I'm not a fan of facebook and don't like using it.

But more important than that is that I don't think something like this exists. (I never used esperanto.com though, so I can't comment on that). A full fledged esperanto social network that has status updates, blogs, a forum, groups, chat bar, and, when it becomes bigger, I'll add the ability to create Pages.

On ipernity and facebook, you're relegated to subgroups on the site that is specifically for esperanto and you have to pick and choose which ones to participate in and everyone just dumps their esperanto posts there. And it's mostly just announcements and questions or a komencanto saying hi. Rather than just everyday talk and status updates one usually does. And if you do start making friends and adding them, they tend to post in their native language (at least on facebook).

Me? I want immersion. I want to see, hear, speak and think only in esperanto. And, so far, the users only speak esperanto and the krokodilejo is barely used. And I think that is a good thing.

Just some of my thoughts.

Makis,
Can you please explain your vision of your social network. How it will be better than www.lernu.net, www.facebook.com, www.esperanto.com, www.edukado.net
You wrote that you've not used www.esperanto.com but before creating your own social network you should first test the main ones on the market and combine their best features in your social network.
In order for your social network to be meaningful, it should be somehow better than the best Esperanto social network www.lernu.net.
Can you list features of your social network?
Such as:
- Multiple criteria for searching people (country, city, level of esperanto etc.)
- Map of users
- User interface completely in Esperanto
- Integrated forums
- Integrated job search features (vacancies and resumes)

I know I'm not Makis, but I am one of the most active users on verduloj.com, and also have an account on esperanto.com. I'm working on a graphic comparing features of Verduloj, Lernu, and esperanto.com; I've included the ones you mentioned, among others; are there any other features anyone wants me to add to the list?
