In a dictionary it says that "Ekde kiam" can be used for how long.
Is that correct? Besides, what about "how often"?

"Ekde kiam" is like "since when", or more literally "starting-from when". I would use the phrase in translating "How long have you been speaking Esperanto" -> "Ekde kiam vi parolas Esperanton?"
