1Guy1 have you ever played Candy Crush? I haven't but I get the appeal, it's mesmerizing.

I don't now how much constant invitations would help people come learn Esperanto. I block those invitations, it's very annoying to be constantly invited to random games.

I haven't played candy crush, I'm afraid to me it is slightly repulsive. I guess I am a bit of a tinkerer and would rather mess around tweaking a computer or doing something practical like music making on it.

I am with you on the annoying updates. My Facebook has all the game invites blocked. Many of my friends find the constant invites a nuisance and some have got quite cross. Having worked in retail for most of my life I can say it is amateur to expect people to go for something just because you stick it under their nose. (This is worth bearing in mind when anyone considers promoting Esperanto).

Alkanadi:
jdawdy:This just made me realize: If there were half as many invitations sent out on social media saying "XXX has invited you to join Learn Esperanto!" as there are Candy Crush or Farmville invitations, Esperanto would soon surpass Chinese in number of speakers! ridego.gif
Maybe, there could be some sort of badges that get posted on facebook for completed Esperanto courses.
there are. The badges are owls.

As one of the moderators of the Esperanto course for English speakers on Duolingo, I would like to give you an update. It is about to launch, and already has over 25,000 people signed up to be notified when the course goes into beta testing. (It will be many months before the Klingon course is ready). By signing up to take the free Duolingo course you can help to improve it by giving us feedback. In my opinion the more useful resources we have for people to learn Esperanto, and the more publicity for the language, the better for the future of the community. Thanks for your interest and support. --RuthKC on Duolingo

Thanks for the update! This is thrilling news.

If my calculations are correct, this means at least 6k signups in the past month alone (at the end of April, when this thread was created, there were just over 19k signups).

I'm trying not to hold my breath, but it's difficult when the figures jump this quickly... ridulo.gif

I downloaded the app for Duolingo a while ago and now these eyes keep staring at me every time I turn on my phone.

I am looking forward to trying this app out.

If you are interested in the Duolingo course, you are also welcome to join the Duolingo Esperanto Learners Facebook group, which already has 600 members though it was started just a few days ago. Many veteran Esperanto speakers have joined the group, where they are already offering advice and guidance to new learners and those planning to get started. Our position is that using multiple methods is the best way to learn a language, so we are encouraging learners to take advantage of lernu! and other internet resources, as well as books, videos, etc.

Right now, 11.3K people are using Esperanto on Duolingo.

That is cool. Thanks to everyone who worked on the course

It's a really good, fun course - many congratulations and thanks to everyone who worked so hard on it. Just from simple repetition of correct sentences, several concepts I really hadn't got my brain round are now making sense to me, which is excellent.

Might take me a while to get to grips with participles still :-/ LOL
