The Esperanto Wikipedia is a landmark of Esperantujo. It is currently the 32th largest Wikipedia language edition, containing 215,000 articles, ahead of some major languages like Hindi. Many of those are, of course, underdeveloped, but the fact remains that it's one of the largest Esperanto-language resources ever. I think it would be safe to say that Vikipedio plays a significant role in the development of the language, perhaps almost as much as print literature.

I was wondering what Lernu contributors think of Vikipedio, and whether they would be interested in contributing to the project (or whether they already edit there).

I find Vikipedio beneficial not only to Esperantujo, but also to individual editors. Editing Vikipedio is an excellent, immersive way of improving one's grasp of Esperanto once you've already attained an intermediate level and are looking to advance. The community is largely welcoming of newcomers and (unlike some other Wikipedia editions) not overly upset at less-than-perfect contributions.

Or, do you think Vikipedio is in some way or another not worth one's time?

I am the culprit for the "senfonta" article "Inversskribo". It's not that there aren't any sources, I just never got around to figuring out how to transfer them from the English version, of which that article is a translation. I keep meaning to get back to that...

I have no doubt that working on Vikipedio articles would greatly help anyone who is trying to expand their Esperanto abilities. Participating in forum discussions and instant messenger/IRC chats has been the biggest help to me, but there you get a lot more conversational-type Esperanto. I'm sure that working Vikipedio articles would expand my formal/academic Esperanto, and would certainly improve my vocabulary at the very least.

If I was better at Esperanto, I would probably contribute.
