I've written a utility that combines a list of Esperanto words you already know with a text you want to read and produces a list of the roots that you need to learn. That list can then be used to create a Memrise course or Anki deck so that you can learn the new words in advance of trying to read each chapter. For me this produced a better experience than trying to combine reading and learning vocabulary at the same time.

The big advantage is that you are only learning the words you don't already know. I've tested it on a few books so far and it seems to work pretty well. I'm releasing it to the community in the hopes that it will help others as it has me.

The utility is free, open source, and portable. If it sounds useful to you, give it a shot! Full details can be found at the LibroListanto homepage. You can also check out a screenshot of LibroListanto to get an idea of what it looks like.

Someone was asking how many root words appear in the Esperanto version of Alice in Wonderland. It would be interested to know.

Keep in mind this isn't an exact number, but it looks like there are around 1,900 roots in Alice in Wonderland.

Nice. Thanks for the answer. It shouldn't take a person too long to memorise 2000 words when using flashcards.
