The "beta testers" thread has been going for awhile. I don't think it can be called beta anymore. So, here's the scoop:

Verduloj.com is a social network like facebook and twitter. It is new and the membership is small but it grows everyday.

If you ever wanted an all Esperantist membership with status messages, a forum, a (private) instant messenger, event list, and, eventually, groups, "pages" and a Q&A section, maybe you would like it.

So, check it out if you are interested: verduloj.com

I am a long-time progresanto but I am working through the Duolingo Esperanto course and I need to practice what I am learning, so I just joined Verduloj. Thank you for creating this new network and providing the opportunity to enrich my practice. ridulo.gif

This is a really good idea. As a rule, I avoid social networks like the plague but I think they make sense for specialized uses like this. How long has Verduloj been around?

Am I correct in understanding there are only 12 members so far? Gotta pump those numbers up.

No really understanding the "Log in with Facebook" thing. Facebook sucks. Why would you log in to one social network with another social network?

Really thank you for the new network!
Like SPX i hate that kind of thing, but i want to stop being an eterna komencanto, so I've just logged in!

Hope to make new friends and get better with my EO!

Verduloj is a small network, but it's not that small. I don't know the total number of members but it must be approaching 200 now.
I don't care for Facebook either, but lots of others use it gladly. Logging in to one network with the credentials of another is just a convenience for those who want it - you don't have to take that option

I've found that verduloj has really helped to keep me motivated in the few months since it launched. Looking forward to connecting with you!

I have to say I'm really enjoying it too. I keep dropping out of Esperanto circles because there isn't a lot happening that interests me, but Verduloj has kept my attention since I joined. I suppose an awful lot of what happens will depend on what we do with it. The creator has kindly done the spadework for us for which, sincere thanks!

Let me just go ahead and get this out of the way:

I want to thank everyone for all the support and warm messages I have received. And especially to the early adopters who hung around for this long even though it was just three or four of us active on verduloj for a long time. It's awesome to know that people enjoy it and are deriving a benefit from it.

Now, with that out of the way, on to the responses to questions!

SPX:This is a really good idea. As a rule, I avoid social networks like the plague but I think they make sense for specialized uses like this. How long has Verduloj been around?
It's probably been at least a good five months or so.
Am I correct in understanding there are only 12 members so far? Gotta pump those numbers up.
As of today, 207 members! ridulo.gif

But not all are active. Verduloj goes through the same thing as other networks: some people sign up and forget to come back, some lurk, some check in every week or two, etc. But I think that the more people that join and the more that people post, the more other people will post and contribute, like a feedback loop.
No really understanding the "Log in with Facebook" thing. Facebook sucks. Why would you log in to one social network with another social network?
Yeah, I don't like Facebook either but a lot of people use it and by using Facebook Login, you not only don't have to remember another set of credentials but also it bypasses the robotchecker on Verduloj so you don't have to wait for me to add you. okulumo.gif

Makis:

Cool, thanks for the responses. I really do think it's a good idea. You designed the whole thing? Thanks for the hard work and the contribution to the Esperanto community.

Right now, I am still very much a beginner and just came back to the language after a good bit of time off, so I honestly can't even read the homepage. But hopefully with the help of the dictionary here I'll be able to decipher it and get signed up. And as my Esperanto skills grow, I'll be able to be a truly active member of the site.

This is one of the reasons why I wanted to create Verduloj: immersion. On twitter or facebook or other places, you are confined to Esperanto groups. So, you have to post something in a gigantic group of thousands of people, which can be intimidating.

Then when you start making friends and add them... they post in their national language all the time!

The only way I ever got better was by practicing. Sometimes I just want to reach out over the computer and shake people who say "I'm afraid of making a mistake" and tell them "if you never made a mistake, it's because you never tried".

(Quick anecdote: I recently found a letter I wrote to my friend when I first started learning Esperanto. If I didn't know what I was trying to say, it would have been totally incomprehensible! :-$)

Now, through Verduloj, I can add people who I find interesting, respond to updates and posts I find interesting and do it all in Esperanto, without ever having to think in English!

And that's a good thing.
