I got the word "preterflugo" for "flyby" from google translate and used it as a verb on the Eo-only forums in this sentence:
"La kosmosondilo New Horizons preterflugas la planedon Plutonon - kaj la lunojn de Plutono."
I know there are lists of common verbs in Eo and whether they're transitive or not. Is there a rule about transitivity of not-so-common or even coined-on-the-fly verbs? Or can I just say the accusative -n is an alternate for a preposition anyway?
"La kosmosondilo New Horizons preterflugas la planedon Plutonon - kaj la lunojn de Plutono."

Bruso:I got the word "preterflugo" for "flyby" from google translate and used it as a verb on the Eo-only forums in this sentence:The compounded verb is transitive because it describes the actions of New Horizons with regard to Pluto. If the verb is not compounded and the preposition directly precedes the object then the accusative is not used: New Horizons flugas preter la planedo Plutono.
"La kosmosondilo New Horizons preterflugas la planedon Plutonon - kaj la lunojn de Plutono."

This is the usual case in compounding a preposition with a verb:
Li parolis pri vi
Li priparolis vin.
