People are using Google translate to cheat on Duolingo. Duolingo gives you the option to "test out" of skills so that you don't have to do them. But the tests are difficult. So people are just using Google translate.

I know because I recognize many of the sentences. This is just one such example.

It doesn't really matter. If you want to learn the language you won't cheat. If you cheat you won't learn. People who cheat on ungraded online language courses are only cheating themselves.

I don't care if they do this. It is just funny. I don't see what they get out of it.

If you look at the picture, it is a screenshot from the Google Translate Community. If you go there then you can help create better translations by verifying the accuracy of each translation.

I know that they were using Google translate because Google translate gave the sentence to me to be verified.

Someone out there was using Google Translate to search the meaning of the sentence. I recognized it from Duolingo. Since duolingo has a "peak" function when a person does a lesson, the only reason why they would need to look up this sentence is if they were "test out" and didn't know the answer.

I don't know why they are doing that. Maybe completing the tree is more important than going through the lessons.

I see a lot of duolingo sentences in the Translate Community, which need to be verified.

PS, I sometimes see sentences translated using the words thee and thou.

Could there be some other reason that these sentences are being fed into Google Translate?

Oh, gotcha. At first I thought the screenshot was from Duolingo.

Maybe but I don't see why someone would want to look up the meaning of a Duolingo sentence. If someone is doing a lesson then they will have the "peak" option so they can see the answer.

Maybe, if it was for the first lessons and they are trying to confirm the answers that Duolingo supplies. However, they sentences are closure to the end of Duolingo and the meaning is very obvious to someone of that level.

Like I said, I have no idea why they want to look up the meaning other than to cheat.

Maybe, they just want to complete the tree and use the "strengthen" option for the whole tree. That way they get random sentences of varying difficulty.

I don't care. It is just an interesting observation. It is really interesting to see how people are using Google translate.
