Thy (or thine) opinion is thine...etc.

This is the problem with archaic forms, and plain speech, it gets used willy-nilly with thee being used where thy would be correct. It's users then claim this is their 'dialect' or 'form'. Well, that's no longer universal communication is it?

Orthohawk sent me a message explaining that this may have developed when Quakerism travelled to America, which seems to me quite probable indeed. Quakers use it for religious reasons, not because it actually specifies anything with greater clarity, as can be seen by the variable usage. There is a reason English moved to the forms it now uses.

I don't think I owe you an apology. If anyone were to go back and read my messages to you - public and private - I am confident they would find them quite civil, at worst a little exasperated.

I have taken pains only to clarify that ci (which, incidentally, is at best a very rough equivalent to the English "thou/thee" ) is highly non-standard Esperanto, to ensure learners of Esperanto don't get the wrong impression.

This is not the same thing as a personal attack - it is just a factual statement. If you use ci regularly, your language use will be deemed quite unusual, often to the point of distracting your interlocutors from whatever you have to say.

That's all I'm going to say on the subject.

No one's forcing anyone to use the forum incognito. Orthohawk deleted his own account, so if he wants to come back under a different name, that's permitted. It's all his preference.

Sad. Another that has apparently misread my initial post. or else has retreated in the world of disingenuousness and lies and mockery that thee and thy fellow haters have heaped upon anyone different from you.

If indeed this is any indication of the wider Esperanto community, I'm very glad not have wasted any time or money in it these past 30 some years. There was such promise.

I will not claim to understand your beliefs, religious or otherwise, more than you, but I do think that Plain Speech embraces honesty and transparency when speaking, no? I don't think that lying about one's identity is a very honest way to practice such a doctrine.

And contrary to popular belief, usage of thy/thee/thou is rare among Quakers today.

Super bizarre. I responded to his private message saying to please address me as "you" or else we haven't got much to talk about, and part of his response was to call me a "kike bitch". I know that Quakerism doesn't have a fixed theology but I am pretty sure a real Quaker would not speak that way.

Quoting private messages in public is a disgusting thing to do.

As well as public shaming for using a word according to its definition, which you happen not to like.

Calling someone a "Kike bitch" is not particularly pleasant either. I think when someone plays the victim in public and says those (alleged) things in private, it ought to be known, yes?
