deltasalmon: I learned to touch type in 7th grade on a QWERTY keyboard and changed over to Dvorak in college. Haven't gone back to QWERTY since.
How long did it take to regain the old fluency?

In the beginning I considered labeling the keys but instead just printed out a Dvorak layout and used that. I would say it probably took a week or two to be able to touch type without looking at the printout, especially for the less commonly used letters and special characters. Once I could touch type it didn't take long at all to get back to up to my QWERTY typing speeds, maybe 2 months? College was a good time to learn since I was doing a lot of typing for classes.

tip for all students: Mac has a Dictation program that is awesome. I used it on my phone and iPad. Works great. It is also on my Mac laptop but I didn't try it there yet.

Also, Windows has a built in voice recognition software. Or, you can install dragonspeak

This is way better than typing.
