Do you live in the UK, would like to appear on TV, and enjoy quizzes, then put your name forward to Esperanto-asocio@gmail.com.

The BBC has approached the Association for a team of Esperanto speakers to appear on the popular TV quiz program Eggheads, where a team of amateur quizzers are matched against team drawn from winners of other quiz programs (the Eggheads).

You will answer the questions in English of course. The categories of questions are things like TV and film, Science, Politics, Sport, History. More details here if you have never watched it.

You won't need to be a fluent speaker of Esperanto. If challenged to say something in Esperanto, you can just reply (fluently in Esperanto) that you are a beginner. And there is no shame in the 'amateurs' losing they usually do. It is good publicity for Esperanto and when the 'amateurs' do win, it can be big bucks.

Cool. If I lived in the UK, I would do it. Sounds fun.

Firstly, I copied the address Esperanto-asocio@gmail.com from the email I received, but it does not appear to be valid, though esperanto.asocio@gmail.com may be so.

Secondly, I later received this (below) from one of the trustees at EAB

I would encourage you all to mark further emails from esperanto.asocio@gmail.com and this individual as spam, and bear in mind that he has no link whatsoever with us. There's nothing we can do to prevent this address being used but at least this way you won't have to receive the emails. If you are often in receipt of unwanted emails from this individual and requests to remove you from his distribution list are ignored, you may wish to report the address esperanto.asocio@gmail.com to the Information Commissioner's Office.

So what is going on and whether the Eggheads production team are seeking a team of Esperanto speakers to take part in the TV programme (plausible as they have done so in the past) I have no idea. I suggest you write direct to EAB asking whether they are trying to put together a team or not.

How bizarre. So what is their e-mail address then?
