These always get me. I'm trying to figure out the best word to use in the sense of "to read a list of /numbers/."

I think a series of numbers, like a list of them, would be numero. Because nombro means amount or number of things. Hope that helps

numero - a page number, an address number, etc.
nombro - amount, quantity (sort of like kvanto)
numeralo - numeral. Numerala sistemo - numeral system (e.g. Arabic, Latin)
cifero - numeral, figure as in These budget figures look off (cf. Russian cifra, German Ziffer, Zifferblatt)
