The article misspells unesco and there's nothing else on the web about it from my searches. Unfortunately, probably not true.

well, I Sent in an inquiry on thier website, http://en.unesco.org/
I'll let you know if I get a response, However UNESCO it seems has an Online Esperanto course, So maybe thier not urging memberstates to use it per se, they have recognized it and are doing what they can

:it has also officially been recognized by UNESCO"

Plus they are working on their worldide education platform, It would be a good time to petition them now, with new advancements with online language learning EO ....

I believe the original article is a gag/hoax post, but I find the UNESCO page on Esperanto quite interesting. The language course it links to is on a site called Unilang which I had never heard of, which apparently is a non-profit language learning site. The Esperanto course, from a quick look, seems to give a basic overview. A search on the site returns some interesting hits:

It is more realistic to make petition to make Esperanto the 7th official language in UN.

Many esperantists are thinking of one language in UN which would be not realistic at all. There are many native speakers of Spanish, Arabic in different countries though only two countries are in a single place, they are Chinese and Russian.

The Bangla is doing petition to make Bangla the 7th official language in UN and next would be Indonesia and Hindi.

Get all the countries whose national languages are not official languages to make Esperanto as the official language in UN and the second language in their countries with various reasons:

1.economy in language learning

2.more language talents are produced with propaedeutic effect

3.inter communication between the countries would be eased.

But I do not know how many countries in the 192 members in UN are not using the 6 official languages as the national languages. The whole south east asia, 11 countries, non of the country has her national language listed in UN official list.

Can it be possible to be achieved by 2020 ?

unilang hu, That's great I love the Esperanto course on unilang, I've printed it out many times and worked the basics with others. it just covers the very basics although.

Where did you find a newspaper article from the year 2150? I didn't think time travel was possible.
