Saluton! I am doing an Independent Study at my school to learn Esperanto! Part of my curriculum is to use a pen pal to practice the language. Does anyone know where I can find someone to practice with? I need to figure this out by early December, so any and all help is appreciated. It would be best if the person I correspond with is at a pretty high level so they can correct my errors (like a teacher would).

Dankon!

It sounds to me like you want a teacher.

What is your level like now? If I were you, I'd compose a short message telling a little about yourself and saying that you're looking for a penpal, and for how long, and that you'd prefer an experienced speaker who can help correct you.

Personally - I know you want to be corrected by someone experienced but if you correspond with someone who is only intermediate or so, they are less likely to use language that will be hard for you to understand. Depending on your level, I would almost suggest not asking for corrections. If you are really just starting, your messages might be marked up a lot, and it might be discouraging to receive that.

Thanks so much! This is really good advice. My level is pretty much at a beginning phase - about 25 hours of work in. So I think you're probably right that it makes more sense to correspond with someone who is more intermediate. Really appreciate it. ridulo.gif

Haha I hope it didn't come off like that ridulo.gif. I think erinja is definitely right. Glad it was brought up - it didn't even occur to me before.

You can correspond with me by Lernu PMs if you like; I'm upper-intermediate level, and I don't bite ridego.gif.
