Recently it was decided in the UK that supermarkets should no longer provide free plastic bags (to protect the environment). Other countries may have taken similar decisions.

This has resulted (at least in the UK) in most people taking their own bags when going shopping.

Now I have a couple of plastic carrier bags (obtained from EAB) with the green star prominently displayed and the text 'Esperanto lingvo internacia' and I suspect that many national associations sell such bags for a nominal figure.

If every Esperantist took such a bag on his/her shopping trip, this would place Esperanto firmly in front of the general public.

(And if someone were to produce a plastic shopping bag with not only the word Esperanto prominently displayed but also a text like Learn Esperanto for free at DuoLingo (or Lernu.net), I would certainly buy a supply for my shopping, and use them.)

Good idea. Unfortunately the EAB catalogue doesn't appear to have bags for sale (unless, perhaps, I've been looking in the wrong place), so one might have to visit Barlaston or a BK to get them.

I want to get something like this. It looks cool.

Don't forget to get an Esperanto iPhone case and shirts.

Yes I imagined something more like these 'bags for life' cloth bags. I got one of these today for spending over 10 euros, with the shop's name and logo.

If I were to emerge from the supermarket with the Esperanto star clearly visible + noteworthy slogan, I think it would arouse some interest.

To advertise Esperanto, there should be a car like this. Except it needs a green star painted on the roof and two little embassy-style Esperanto flags on the hood.

Esperanto Embassy Car

Maybe, the president of the ESF could have this as a company car.

I've seldom been asked about anything I carry that has Esperanto written on it. It's seldom, not never, but in any case there is a limit to how much people are going to ask you about your stuff.

If you wanted to do something like this, though, I'd not bother with a green star. It means nothing to most people. Esperanto - international language [written in your local language] is probably the best bet for getting someone to ask a question, rather than putting Esperanto symbols on things, which are meaningless outside the community of people who already know about it.

Depends on whether you only want to attract the attention of non-Esperantists. It might also be a way to connect to Esperantists who don't go to meetings.

I reckon they'd also be able to respond to a non-Esperanto message. Unless they don't speak the local lingo.

It connects Esperantists.

Also, we can take a lesson from corporations, who put their symbols everywhere even though it may not have any meaning to the general public. The point is that it gets people accustomed to the symbol on a subconscious level. It is about brand awareness.

This has been shown to have a big impact on kids, whom we assume aren't comprehending the world around them.

I think its useful if it carries the green star, but most important of all the bag needs to show where you can go to learn Esperanto for free (either Duolingo or Lernu.net, or both).

As far as I am aware nobody has yet produced a plastic carrier bag which directs people to where they can learn Esperanto for free on the Internet.

Another thing, I don't believe anybody has produced a window sticker for one's car which also advertises that you can learn Esperanto for free on the Internet at Duolingo and Lernu.net. I would certainly buy one of these.

Any budding entrepreneur out there who would like to put these on the market? I think that there would be steady sales in the Esperanto community.
