I always hear about the Esperanto movement. For those engaged in the 'movement' can you tell me what you do exactly?

It has no special meaning. It's just a generic term for all activities regarding the organized use of Esperanto or promotion of Esperanto. Clubs, associations, projects, websites, etc.

It's almost like it's just a vague term to describe public versus private Esperanto activities. Hosting an official lunch of a local Esperanto club at my house might be considered participation in the Esperanto movement (by hosting an Esperanto meeting), even if only 3 people show up. We are presuming this is a public event (even though it's hosted at my house), for any local Esperanto speaker or person interested in Esperanto who feels like showing up.

Calling up three Esperanto-speaking friends and inviting them to come for lunch because we haven't seen each other in a bit and I want to catch up - that's not the Esperanto movement.

In my opinion more or less everybody who puts efforts in to bundle Esperanto activities could be categorized like member of this E-o movement.

Another view could be that E-o community has members who run the boat/infrastructure and others who use/consume boat/infrastructure only. I would describe myself like user/consumer because i.e. I use eo-de hardcopy dictionary only without doing more to spread E-o. I could be wrong but probably most dictionary projects were run by movement folks because they are most enthusiastic for Esperanto.
