What is the difference between fora and malproksima? Are they synonyms? Was "fora" introduced as a shorter alternative to "malproksima"?

They're basically synonyms, although fora has stronger connotations of the "far-flung", "absent" or "less accessible".

I agree with "opalo".

According to PIV,
 • fora: Malproksima
 • forigi:
• Meti malproksimen
 • Malaperigi
