It must have been a joke made because they started speaking Spanish. I'm sad I had to wade through all that dross to see it.

Nominees? Somewhere I think a circus is missing its clowns.

It is. The section of the article that you quote from was written by the journalist as a parody of the debate. This is fitting, because the debate itself was a parody of a debate.

when I first was starting to decide to learn esperanto, I read a letter by President Obama in Esperanto, talking about his agenda. I could not quickly find it in a google search but I know it is out there
