I didn't know this but I just saw it on Reddit.
for mac users: You can switch to the Irish extended keyboard or US extended keyboard. Type "alt" + "6" then the letter to turn it into a hat letter. the exception is "ŭ". Type "alt" + "b" then "u" to get "ŭ".Is there any other type of keyboard like Spanish or French that would be more convenient?

Just drop Esperanto.bundle in ~/Library/Keyboard Layouts
~ is your home directory. (e.g. /Users/ada)
Go to System Preferences/Keyboard
Go to the Input Sources tab and click the plus sign at the bottom.
Pick Esperanto from the list, and check "Show Input menu in menu bar"
Then your menu bar will have a flag of your default language that if you click on it, you will get a drop down box with an Esperanto flag. Click that, or use a keyboard shortcut to switch between layouts.
Hope this helps.
