It appears that an Esperanto game website would be very popular (based on the fact that the most popular threads on lernu are games).

I have been thinking about making a language learning game for years and years now but I still can't come up with a good concept or premise.

There's already Scrabble in Esperanto, at least on-line:

Boggle? Jotto? Hangman?

Shameless Plug: Frazludo

This is a learning game which I devised many years ago. I was able to develop it and fine tune it during the short period when I was trying to teach my daughter Esperanto. That came to naught because I suck at teaching. However, we did enjoy playing the game.

Thanks. I think this game might also be good for a club activity.

Yes. Of course. That was my first thought. It would be good for Esperanto clubs for sure.

My second thought was that you could digitize it and put it on the web for people to play.

I would think that any word based game (Scrabble, Boggle, Scattergories) would be good. When I was learning Spanish in high school they would sometimes let us play other games, like Monopoly, we just had to speak in Spanish (and the board was in Spanish as well).

Strangely enough I was *just* looking for some Esperanto games (and found this one, in fact, via Google) right before coming to Lernu and seeing this thread. And that's because my local club is trying to improve and expand, and we need good (enjoyable) activities for people of various levels. We definitely need more online stuff, but we also need things people can do in person -- games, reading material, anything -- at beginner and intermediate levels.

What I don't get is...surely we're not the only Esperanto club trying to find good activities and good reading material. Why am I having such trouble finding resources for this? Am I missing something?

I think there should be an online resource for local Esperanto clubs where people share games, texts, and anything else they've found useful. It could even be a forum here on Lernu.

Yah. That would be useful. If you want some reading material for beginners, then I recommend this comic book. I was the one who translated it, and I paid someone to proofread and edit it so that there are no error.

It is available on Kindle as well.

Everyone seems to love it. The only complaint I get is that it is too short because it is only 25 pages. All the sentences are in simple grammar so it is perfect for a beginner.
