This whole thread is going the way "someone is wrong on the Internet". Where is Bertilo when you need him?

Bertil's time might be better spent than on discussions that are getting nowhere. Erinja was right to pull out of it. I think it's time I did as well. ridulo.gif

However both your citation and mine are merely personal opinions of the authors and not authoritative at all.
The question would be:
Is there any occurrence of something like "mi iras vin" in the Fundamento?
Is there any occurrence of something like "mi iras vin" in the works of Zamenhof?
The fact that I didn't use a particular kind of formation in my works does not invalidate it. The question shouldn't be "Did Zamenhof ever say something like it?", it should be "Does it follow or break any of Zamenhof's rules?"

I indicate in the Fundamento, that the accusative ending can be used to indicate direction... and I never said that direction had to be toward a place (ekzercaro #28). Any such 'rule' is merely an inference based on my personal writing preferences.

I intended the accusative ending to provide a lot of flexibility for speakers with different native languages. For example, if you don't know which preposition to use, you can just leave it out and use the accusative (ekzercaro #29)! Not sure if the verb takes a direct object? No problem... just use the accusative anyway (ekzercaro #29).

As far as I'm concerned, "mi iras vin" is fine. It's in perfect accordance with the rules I laid out for the language. I just never used it because I like using the preposition 'al' (I use that one a lot).
