It seems to me that such a study points to a hard truth that people would rather avoid: that people are more angry (or perhaps more frustrated) than is widely admitted. The impression is given that it's the internet that causes nice people to turn nasty, but it seems to me more likely that the anonymity merely strips away the social reserve that normally conceals it.

This is not a bad thing because when people get off the internet and go back into actual physical society among other people, the social etiquette (to some level or other) returns.

Anyway there's something deeply satisfying about telling someone he's an absolute simpleton when necessary, and it's probably better to do it online. Not for reasons of cowardice, but any escalation is far less likely to result in a punch-up.

"I don't agree with you therefor you're stupid!"

How I viewed this argument

Kljunar (Montri la profilon) 2016-majo-23 00:16:05

Also, leave it to Jesse to completely insult the other person, then attempt to cover it up right at the end there. Always seems to be one person to drop in, make a mess, then leave doesn't it?

Anyway sorry this wasn't my business, I just leaving my two cents.

Want to correspond with real people on real paper instead of screen names on internet forums?

Don't want those people turning up uninvited on your doorstep?

Simple solution. Post Office box.

Sorry, double post.

Well, I said that his reaction was stupid (well, paranoid actually), not the man himself. A nuance you clearly weren't able to grasp. Also I think I was a little more elaborate than that. You know, arguments and all, even if you don't agree.

This thread constitutes my first ever message on this forum. Would you care to elaborate on how you came to your conclusion of me being some sort of troll? And a regular one at that?

If not, please man up and rectify! Even if you don't agree with me at all, no reason to get foul and personal.

Perhaps you confuse me with somebody else?

At least I opposed merely the attitude and reaction of Vestitor, not Vestitor himself!

Jesse (Montri la profilon) 2016-majo-23 07:03:54

You know what, forget it. Kljunar appears to be a 15 year old troll himself.

This perfectly illustrates my point about forums: 15 year old kids acting like grownups, only man enough to post silly ad hominems behind a wall of anonimity.

For what it's worth: I meant no insult to anyone, simply countered an attitude/opinion.

Bye

I know you are but what am I. You stupid, fart head!

I am just teasing. Yah, I agree with you: Forums can be very annoying and useless. Before you go, give the Esperanto forum a try.

Name calling can have a negative impact on your own psychological state.
