erinja:Perhaps you can tell me what's offensive about using a tooth cleaning method other than what's common in the industrialized west.
I will rephrase your question so that it accurately reflects the topic:
Perhaps you can tell me what's offensive about a specific group of people using a tooth cleaning method...

Miland found it offensive. This is offensive because it is a stereotype. Threads can be deleted because of stereotypes.

If it was up to me, I would be okay with teeth cleaning discussions, as well as discussions about a specific color (which cannot be mentioned here).

erinja:You shouldn't assume that admins read all the threads (particularly when they are offline for multiple days in a row)...
So the discrepancy is due to admins not reading the threads? Is there a plan to fix this problem?

Be careful what you ask for. ridulo.gif

Alkanadi:When I had a complaint, I was told to go elsewhere, such as 4chan.
No. You were told that if you wanted a site that has no rules then lernu.net is not the site for you (because we have rules) and that you may prefer something like 4chan, which has no rules. This is obviously not the same thing as being told to suck it up or go away. Once again you are misrepresenting the lernu administration.

Alkanadi:Couldn't the same logic be used to counter this argument?
Unlikely since the logic is specious, as shown above.

Alkanadi:The thread is relevant because the subject is about Lernu.
But this thread's whole raison d'etre is simply to cast aspersions on the lernu admins in response to a single person's indignation at an act of basic forum administration. At this point it serves no purpose at all beyond that. It's actually rather pathetic.

I will continue to participate though, for as long as I feel it necessary to correct any further misrepresentations that appear here.

A plan to fix the problem of administrators not reading every single post on the site? Yes, we are fortunate to have put such a plan into action years ago. It's called the link for reporting posts. Please use it if you see a post that you think is offensive or against the site's terms of service. This link is also useful for other purposes, such as reporting your own post if you accidentally double posted and you want an admin to delete your duplicated post. Each post is evaluated on its own merits and there are no automatic bad consequences for having one of your posts reported, so you should not hesitate to report your own post if you want it deleted for whatever reason.

Our intention is not now and has never been to have an administrator read every single post on the site. If we wanted to do that, we'd have a fully moderated site where nothing gets posted without admin approval, but we do not have the manpower for that, nor do we have any interest in being so strict.

The vast majority of our users are teens and adults who know how to behave in society and are genuinely interested in using the site for having friendly discussions, not in causing problems and making inflammatory comments. If a user feels himself or herself not to be in this group (teens and adults who know how to behave in society and are not interested in making inflammatory comments or causing problems), then the user would probably be more comfortable somewhere other than this site.

Discrepancies in enforcement? Please report a post if you believe it should have been deleted but it wasn't. Admins look at all reported posts and decide what to do. The decision may be to delete the post right away if it is clearly against the site's terms of service. However, the decision may also be to do nothing (if we disagree that the post is against the terms of service), or to send the user a warning, or to wait a short time and see how things develop. The only way that you can know for 100% whether a post has been viewed by administrators is if you have personally reported it.

I haven't been around Lernu much in the last year - real life took over. If I'm honest, after few minutes of perusing the English subforum, I almost want to stay gone. While Lernu has been an excellent learning tool for me in the past, I'm getting too old to spend time getting mired in unproductive conversations. I'm not going to tell the moderators how to run their own site, but it is frustrating to see problem users be allowed to continue to detract from the quality of the discourse.

Hello Tempodivalse. I don't know...when people post on a forum to remark upon how life is too short to post on quarrelsome forums, it's fairly hard to take it seriously.
