One of the threads on this forum was deleted today.

To make it clear for all users, what violations are necessary for a thread to be deleted?

Persistent propagation of nonsense? Extreme derailment?

What does your pop psychology stereotyping have to do with Esperanto? Also the original question was idiotic.

Hopefully this one will disappear too because this forum is for asking questions about and discussing Esperanto in English, as you well know.

I was hoping for something more specific because this list of rules would mean that 90% of forum threads are in violation of the rules.

If 90% of people smoke Marijuana and it is illegal, then the police can easily discriminate against anyone they want by applying the rule to some and turning a blind eye to others.

Threads get deleted when they are too true to be accepted by admins.

What's that supposed to imply? Is it a charge of censorship? It sounds suspiciously like hysterical conspiracy talk.

The statement means that the admins are denying the viewpoints of others for the sake of social engineering.

In other words, they simply delete the threads, which don't entrench their own positions. If they were on the winning side of the argument, the thread would have continued until the day of judgement (assuming that the losing side never concedes).

Pro tip: Starting and persisting at threads that spread untrue stereotypes about groups of people (may be a group relating to language, nation, religion, sexual orientation, etc) are unlikely to get far. It is rare to delete such a thread at the first message if it seems to be a result of a simple misunderstanding borne of ignorance that is quickly corrected, but if it seems to be pushing from simple not knowing into bigotry, such a thread isn't likely to last.

Therefore I suggest not starting threads with topics like "Why are Spaghettarians better at business than other religions?" or "How can you wear a hat without someone thinking you come from the Pottsylvania? - or should you just avoid wearing a hat?".

People representing a huge array of nations, religions, languages, sexual orientations, philosophies, etc use this page, and just as you probably would not want people posting a ton of untrue stereotypes about your national/religious/linguistic/philosophical/sexual orientation group, you should avoid posting untrue stereotypes of those other groups. It's called being polite in a diverse community. You can be as bigoted as you want at home among friends but we try to keep this website more welcoming than that.

Also - the forums on this site in languages other than Esperanto are primarily intended for talking about Esperanto and things relating to Esperanto. If you have a language question, it's best if you choose an example that deals with a neutral topic, in order not to derail the conversation from grammar (which is what you wanted to ask about, right? Something like "Am I using the accusative correctly here?" ) to some controversial topic that would probably be better discussed in a different forum ( "Dion ne ekzistas" - is this sentence correct?), or not discussed at all on this site ( "Pocilvanianoj estas murdiston" - is this sentence correct?).

The question was obviously rhetorical. In any case you delude yourself (as if that's news) if you believe you were "on the winning side". That wasn't winning, it was tenacious ignorance.

erinja:...threads that spread untrue stereotypes...
The problem is that this becomes very Orwellian since you can shift the definition of "untrue" and "stereotypes" in any direction you want. You are the judge, jury, and executioner.

It is all subjective. Since perception is reality, we all have our own reality, but your reality gets to prevail over others.

You have the power. The rest of us within the learner class have no choice.
