He can't do it in a couple of hours.Actually you don't have to memorize thousands of words in Esperanto. It is enough to learn some 600 popular roots and using affixes they will make for many thousands. Esperanto is user friendly. But to get some fluency in the language, 20 hours is not enough of course.

I am Portuguese Brazilian speaker I have been study English all my life and i can't speak fluently...Just one point: what has studying of English to do with Esperanto? English is very difficult language and it is quite common for a foreigner to study it all his life. But of course 20 hours for Esperanto is a sheer nonsense.
