Demando pri la vorto "atendi"

Antaŭe nelonge, mi volis traduki frazon. Kiu havis la vorton "atendi." Mi provis traduki ĝin, kaj poste, serĉis en Tatoeba la saman frazon. Kaj neniu uzis la vorton kiel mi. La frazo estas angle: "I am waiting for X to Y" Ekzemple: "I am waiting for the bus to come" "She is waiting for him to sing" ktp. Ŝajnas, ke oni devas traduki tiajn frazojn kiel "mi atendas, ke la buso venos" aŭ "mi atendas la venon de la buso."

Ĉu oni povas diri ankaŭ "mi atendas la buson veni"? Oni povas diri "mi spektas la buson veni" do, se oni ne povas diri la saman frazon kun "atendi", kial?

Mi atendas la buson veni ne estas erara; tamen la ĉefa signifo de atendi estas "resti ĝis iu okazo aŭ ies alveno", do atendi la buson veni estas pleonasma (superflua).

La diferenco inter I am waiting for the bus kaj I am waiting for the bus to come estas nur ke la dua esprimas pli da optimismo per la aldono de la feliĉiga bildo.

I wouldn't say that mi atendas la buson veni is standard Esperanto. The verbal idea would be more commonly be expressed as a noun - so, for example, mi atendas la alvenon de la buso . (That said I did manage to find two hits in the Tekstaro for such infinitive usage with atendi)

Of course you do commonly get sentences like X-I ion/iun Y-i - ekz. Mi vidis lin fari - where the item in the accusative seems to be both the object of the preceding verb and the subject of the infinitive. But such usage with atendi doesn't seem to me to be well established.

Also with atendi you get sentences like ni ne atendis aŭdi ion novan but here the meaning is more expect than wait for.

The difference between 'waiting for the bus' and 'waiting for the bus to come' is perhaps in what follows.

It might be strange if someone said that they were waiting for the bus and did not board the bus. But someone could be waiting for the bus to come without any intention of getting on the bus
