I know what you mean about it being relative but if you think about it, the English word is relative, too. If there is an up, that means that there must also be a down, and down is somewhere below up, right?
Also, you'll find that if you look up "up" in an English dictionary, the definition will be very similar to what you find under "supre" in an Esperanto dictionary.
