Okay, I'll start. I heard about Esperanto in the book "Did the Neanderthal men speak English?" - a popular science book about linguistics. I decided to learn Esperanto because it was free and because I thought that if it was really as easy as described, I could just add it to my slate without too much effort, and if not, I would just stop. Maybe not the best reason then, but now I have some real reasons, such as my Esperanto-speaking boyfriend, my job and all the money I saved on hotels when staying with an Esperanto speaker instead (and got a better experience to boot).

Okay, ich werde den Anfang machen. Von Esperanto habe ich zuerst im Buch "Sprachen die Neanderthaler Englisch?" gelesen; das ist ein populärwissenschaftliches Buch zur Linguistik. Ich entschloss mich, Esperanto zu lernen, weil es kostenlos war und weil ich dachte, dass ich, wenn es wirklich so einfach wie beschrieben ist, es einfach zu meiner Liste hinzufügen könnte, und ansonsten würde ich einfach aufhören. Das war vielleicht nicht so ein guter Grund, aber jetzt habe ich ein paar wirklich gute Gründe, wie z. B. mein Freund, der Esperanto spricht, meine Arbeit und das Geld, das ich nicht für Hotels ausgeben musste, weil ich bei Esperanto-Sprechern eine kostenlose Übernachtungsmöglichkeit und kostenlose Reiseführer gefunden habe.

So obviously you've got a lot out of Esperanto. But I'm wondering, how do you use it in your job then? That sounds pretty interesting and unusual to me.

Do evidente vi gajnis multe pro Esperanto. Sed mi scivolas, kiel vi uzas ĝin en via laborado? Sajnas sufiĉe interese kaj malofte al mi.

Okay...

I'm not sure where I heard of Esperanto to begin with, but at the beginning of this year I heard about a local Esperanto congress. This renewed my interest in the language and was my original reason for studying Esperanto.

I got a lot out of the lessons at the congress, which were taught by Stano Marĉek, editor of the review Esperanto. He is a very good teacher.

Out of the languages I've studied, Esperanto is by far the easiest and probably the most expressive, which is my main reason for continuing to study the language.

Kaj nun mi provas traduki tio en Esperanto.

Mi ne scias kie mi aŭdis pri Esperanto komenca, sed ĉe la komenco de ĉi tio jaro, mi aŭdis pri loka Esperanta kongreso. Tio renovigis mian intereson de la lingvo kaj estis mian originalan motivon por studi Esperanton.

Mi multe avantaĝis de la lecionoj de la kongreso, kio instruis de Stano Marĉek, redaktoro de la revuo Esperanto. Li estas tre bona instruisto.

El la lingvoj mi studis, Esperanto estas tute la plej facila kaj verŝiane la plej esprimiva, kio estas mian ĉefa motivo kontinui studi Esperanton.

Bonvolu korekti mian errarojn ĉi tie!

Well, I don't use Esperanto daily for my job, but it did help me in major ways:

I joined a non-profit organization called E@I, which stands for Edukado@Interreto (Education@Internet), whose working language is Esperanto. They are the ones who created Lernu, they also have their hands in lot of other interesting modern projects and they offer seminars, for example I participated in a free seminar in the Czech Republic on web programming, flash, search engine optimisation and the like with participants from across Europe, all in Esperanto. Another time I got a scholarship to attend DrupalCon (the major conference about Drupal, a content managing system) in Barcelona in a group of Esperanto speakers, and I've also had the chance to gain experience in several projects. This means that I'm already more qualified than many German programmers, and I haven't even fully graduated yet (still writing my thesis).

I also got my current job because of Esperanto: my boyfriend and I were spending our New Years at the Internacia Seminario (a 7-day party with several hundred young Esperanto speakers from all over the world) and there we met the founder of StudiVZ (the German equivalent of Facebook, very popular), who also speaks Esperanto. Over the days we talked a lot and he found that we are both into the latest web technologies, that we have experience programming in Ruby on Rails, that we're multilingual and have a key interest I can't name here that they are planning to create a social network for. So now we are both programming on that in a shiny new office in Berlin, with a generous arrangement that allows me to finish my studies meanwhile. ridulo.gif And we are getting lessons in scaleable design from Mr. StudiVZ himself, also in Esperanto. ridulo.gif

Saluton, mi jus legis pri ĉi tiu grupo. Mi esperas povi "catch up". Mi decidas lerni Esperanto kie mi sciiĝas ke la angla ne estas la universala lingvo.

Hola, acabo de leer sobre este grupo. Espero poder ponerme al dia. Decidi aprender Esperanto cuando me di cuenta que Ingles no era realmente el idioma universal.

Aŭdis pri Esperanto mia avo ; ĉu kiam li estis militkaptite de 1914 ĝis 1921 en Rusio ?
"Ia germana katolika pastro elpensis tiun facilan lingvon" diris nur mia patro kiam mi estis ankoraŭ infanino, kaj mi ne rigardis en mian vortaron por scii se tiu estis la vero.
