I am on Lesson 18 of Lernu! In it, I came across the following Esperanto sentence and English translation:
Ŝi fartas tro malbone por veni ĝis la malsanulejo,.. = She is feeling very bad to go to the hospital.
If the meaning is that she is too ill to make the journey to hospital, then the English translation should be: "She is feeling too bad to go to the hospital." ("Very bad" would translate "tre malbone").
Also, I thought "veni" meant "to come". Would it not be better to use "iri" here?

From what you have written I think you have the right translation. This is obviously an international site and not everyone will have the same command of English. You have been able to work out what the translation should be, so there is no real problem - just a bit of confusion! Hope you are enjoying your studies. Donald from Tunbridge Wells Kent.

Anĝel:As far as I understand it, "tro" means "too much", so your translation looks good. Wonder why they used "very"? I thought "tre" was "very".You are right. As written, the translation should be "She was too ill to come to the hospital." Also I think "al la malsanulejo" would better than "ĝis la malsanulejo". "Ĝis la malsanulejo" gives the idea of "up to the hospital" or "as far as the hospital" and not necessarily implying the intent to go into the hospital.
