Esperanto activity is nimble enough that it can document new terms in an ethnic language faster than occurs in the ethnic language itself. A case in point is ‘fur baby’. There is an entry for it in Wiktionary, but no entry for it in Merriam-Webster, nor an entry for it in Wikipedia, nor any mention of it in the Wikipedia article on ‘pet’, although there are 446K hits for it in Google (which I link to in my entry for ‘fur baby’). So, by including an entry for it in Vikivortaro, we would beat at least beat Merriam-Webster to the punch.

Another example is ‘metallic hydrogen’. Wikipedia has an article on it (but only as a theoretical possibility), but the article is now out-of-date, not mentioning the actual creation of this material. (Even if it turns out to be a false claim, this apparent success should be added to the Wikipedia article.) In my Esperanto-language front-end to Wikipedia, for ‘metallic hydrogen’ I include not only a link to the old Wikipedia article, but also a link to an article in “Science” discussing this latest development, thus beating Wikipedia to the punch in regard to being up-to-date.
