Has anyone ever applied the Gini coefficient to the languages of the world, Esperanto included, using the (estimated) numbers of speakers of the languages as the statistic of interest? I searched around a bit on the web, but couldn’t come up with anything along that line. If the ‘dispersion’ of a language can be both quantified and estimated, it would be interesting to see the Gini coefficient for the languages of the world using that statistic as well.

Kiel vi kalkulas tiun nombron? Kaj kion ĝi signifas? Mi legis, ke temas pri mezurado de malegaleco inter individuoj, do ne pri individuaroj.

Bonvole re-endormiĝu.

To measure inegalities amongst/inbetween english speakers, demando.gif let say 0.4

amongst/inbetween francophones... let say 0.3

amongst esperantists, Iet bet 0.1

What would it be? Would it be like asking how much the speakers of a language can exploit or abuse of their co-speaker's languages...

Edit

After thoughts maybe it would be close to the numbers given on vikipedio (for ordinary Ginis)

Aŭstrio 0,313 (2002)
Britio 0,360 (1999)
Danio 0,247 (2004)
Francio 0,327 (1995)
Germanio 0,283 (2000)
Italio 0,360 (2004)
Japanio 0,249 (1993)
Usono 0,408 (2000)

I keep my guess amongst esperantist organizations okulumo.gif

The Gini coefficient or inegalities coefficient (from 0 to 1) is the highest for English and French if you count all people in South Asia and Africa who studied a little English or French.and speak them very bad or not at all.

Esperanto could reduce this international gap, because it could allow, that all people speak easy international language, therefore increase knowledge and income.
