I just noticed this morning that Duolingo Esperanto has surpassed 1 million learners. (872K English + 130K Spanish Esperanto learners.
Part of the draw of Duolingo is its "game like" aspects. Attaining a new "level". Keeping a streak going. Accumulating eXperience Points. The plannability of a day's study session - A single lesson is always about the same length. A single review session has about the same number of questions/challenges.
The Lernu media library is helpful. It has good variety. It has three levels. There are counts of words and pages.
What if, one could accumulate eXperience Points by reading the Forum Library? What if experience points were awarded based on a simple algorithm like a reading a page, possibly multiplied by the "difficulty" of the text. E.G. Reading 1 page of hard Esperanto = 3 points. What if there were 20 or 25 or 50 levels? Might this help the student gradually improve their Esperanto by playing a sort of Extensive Reading game?
