The adoption, or not, of an auxiliary language such as Esperanto falls within the larger category of “cultural governance”. Wikipedia has an article on the topic “cultural governance”. Here is an excerpt:

“The precise meaning of “cultural governance” also depends heavily on the definition of culture, which can range from narrow reference to institutions like museums and concert halls connected with the arts to broad meanings such as a society’s way of life or its systems of knowledge and symbols. In the broader view, cultural governance deals holistically with the production of meaning in a society, through aspects including the culture industry, the formation of taste, and the use of language.”

Ironically, although “the use of language” is a (major?) component of “cultural governance”, this article in Wikipedia is available in no language other than English.

The full article can be accessed here.

It seems you’re a sucker for the Intentional Fallacy.

They don’t get to say what the significance of what they have written is, any more than anyone else. That is, the author of a document doesn’t have any special authority in saying what it is about.

So: my words are not trumped by their words.

If you want to read up on the concept, here is a link.

One concept of literary theory that is underused in music criticism is the intentional fallacy : the belief that the author's intent is not the singular truthful interpretation for a work.
sucker for someone or something
someone who is prejudiced in favor of someone or something; someone who is drawn to someone or something. I'm a sucker for a pretty face. Ted is a sucker for any dessert with whipped cream on it. I don't know why I volunteered for this job. I'm a sucker for punishment I guess.
I guess you're right. senkulpa.gif
