Email facility on lernu

I often used the internal email facility on the older lernu website. I got an error message when this new website began, suggesting that it would be available in a few months but that doesn't seem to have happened. Is this facility going to be made available in the near future, or has it been abandoned?

I have joined so recently that I have only heard rumours of an internal messaging functionality, I have never seen one. From what I have heard from the old-timers, there is no plan to re-release it neither any substitute one.

So effectively it means that the Lernu "community" is just a gallery of faces with desultory bios and no means of actually doing what Eo was designed to do.. communicate with peeps of all backgrounds and cultures.

After the reorganization of the website, apparently the decisions were made to drop some functions. I agree, that the loss of the personal messaging system is a loss to the community. Also, apparently forums are no longer being moderated or monitored, so that spam messages can sometimes clog things up. On the whole, I would say that lernu! has gone downhill.

I really can’t disagree.

I didn’t want to say anything when the changes were new, but I think enough time has gone by for me to come clean: I absolutely despise the new Lernu forum, and, actually, the whole redesign in general. At first I figured it was just a new thing that would take a little while to get used to, and I really tried to give it a chance. It didn’t work. I hated it then, and I hate it now, just as much.

When I started with Esperanto in late 2005, Lernu had an active, vibrant feel to it. That lasted right up until the site redesign. After the redesign... I just can’t get into it. I hardly come here anymore. I can’t even put my finger on exactly what is wrong. Just a lot of little things. Mostly the way the forum works, but also the lack of moderation, all the things that have been removed, or that just don’t work, and the feeling like no one else is really coming here anymore either.

Lernu isn’t a dead site, but it feels like a dying one.

The lack of a facility to communicate with people privately is a serious limitation. If it is not restored, I guess people will have to organise an alternative forum somewhere else that allows it. In fact, here's a question: has anyone done this? Is there a rival Esperanto forum that may not be as impressive in terms of uploaded teaching material, but enables communication between individuals?

But certainly there are forums, but not so vivid.

I also preferred the original Lernu. Apart from appearance this is not an improvement. I rarely come here now.
