( If I could get someone to translate this message into Esperanto and post it here that would be amazing!! )

Saluton Fellow Esperantists!

My name is Jim O'Neill and it has been a very long time (~ 9 years) since I have done anything with Esperanto, which was mostly working on the Esperanto sections on my blog (http://www.arionshome.com/esperanto/). I had spent more time researching Esperanto then actually learning it, though. =)

*** Underground Support for Esperanto ***

However, I have a unique opportunity to potentially promote Esperanto, but it will need to be a slow and steady process.

I am an elected Member of Parliament for the new micronation of Asgardia (https://asgardia.space/en/) which has over 150k citizens, although I am not contacting you in an official capacity though, merely as a citizen who supports Esperanto and is concerned with linguistic equality.

I could very much use some Esperanto allies in order to promote Esperanto as the primary secondary-language for Asgardia, because, currently, there is sigificant support to make English the primary language for our rather large multinational and multilinguistic nation (with electoral districts broken down by 13 linguistic lines), and I think that is a rather bad idea, and I know that you all know why. =)

In order to foster an nice underground movement of support for Esperanto I would like your help. The opportunity I am going to present to you may be of mixed bag for some of you: I would like to ask you to sign up for our newsletter by going to the bottom of the following page under Other (languages), add your info, and type in Esperanto for the language.

https://asgardiaspacenews.com/sign-up/

This form is what that they will be using to determine translational needs for the newsletter, and indirectly as well as put Asgardia on notice that Esperanto is something that should be taken seriously by a nation that espouses global unity and equality for all of Humanity. =) I have already signed up for the newsletter in Esperanto myself to get this started.

Also, if they need help in translating that newsletter I think I may know some people who may be able to help out, if you know what I mean!! =)

*** Citizenship ***

If you would like to take this process a step further you may register to be a citizen to put Esperanto officially on the list of languages in Asgardia, as well as lend your expertise on the topic of linguistic equality and Esperanto. There is a link there on the front page titled Become an Asgardian. At the bottom of this message are links to my Asgardian profile too.

https://asgardia.space/en/

There are a few threads on this on our forums and in our Facebook group. I
posted links to searches below. I would not attack these en masse and make it look like an invasion which would make people suspicious. Slow and steady will help keep the idea fresh on the forums, in Facebook, Twitter, and in the minds of those in charge, and can help to slowly convert those citizens and those in leadership positions who have not really researched nor understand the importance of linguistic equality.

*** Esperanto in a MY Constitutional Rewrite ***

Also, because the current constitution is a mess, I am in the process of a complete constitutional rewrite, in which I am including Esperanto as the primary secondary-language for Asgardia; and will, at some point, desire an Esperanto translation of it, but that is for a much later time for I still have much, much work to do.

Here is the current pertinent text from my rewrite dealing with languages in Asgardia:
D. Languages in Asgardia

1. Facilitating clear communication between all of Humanity which is powerfully divided by their various organically evolved languages will provide a bridge to Humanity’s many nations and cultures bringing us all closer together, and will be key to our unity.

2. Humanity has many organic national and cultural languages (which take in excess 1 - 2 years full time to learn to be conversational but not fluent and will subordinate non-native speakers due to a expressive linguistic disadvantage) so we cannot in good conscience declare an official Asgardian language which would give many the peoples of many countries who share that language a very powerful advantage over the peoples of all other nations and tongues for that will not be, in any sense, equitable by imposing upon them a inferior second-class citizenship by limiting their expressive participation.

3. Until as such time as technology makes linguistic barriers obsolete, the primary secondary-language for Asgardia shall be Esperanto (which takes about 5 full time weeks to be conversational) (or a uniquely Asgardian form of it) which shall not give any speaker native to a culture or nation a linguistic advantage and shall also be a powerful translational tool.

4. We value the organic various national and cultural languages of Humanity as a part of our collective cultural history and identity. Preservation of Humanity’s multitudes of languages should be an important task for if we lose a language then we lose history, culture, and a part of Humanity’s past and identity.
Dankon all,

If you have any question, let me know.
If you do decide to give me a hand I would love to know as well.

Jim

Fiction. Glittering generality. Translator Microbes require a Magical Computer. Natural language processing is one of the main AI-complete problems, so the translation device is basically a person. Translators are people.
