Nope, there are no silent letters in E-o. All letters are always pronounced the same way with two exceptions, the duonvokaloj j and ŭ. The letter j has two pronunciations: one in the end and one elsewhere.

The ending j is pronounced like English i or ee. Thus words like
  • (eo) prononci
  • (eo) ĉiuj*
  • (en) bit
  • (en) free (make it short)
have the same i sound.

*: Since a diphthong can end only in those two duonvokaloj, there are two syllables in the word, ĉi-uj.

Elsewhere j is pronounced like English y (I think). Thus words like
  • (eo) jaro
  • (en) year
have the same j sound.

For the letter ŭ... Most pronounce aŭto as auto, few as avto, but all ŭaŭ as English wow. See the Wikipedia article.

Oni povus efektive testi ĉu estas diferenco en la prononco de 'j' depende de ĉu sekvas aŭ ne vokalo.

Oni surbendigu (ekz) 'kajo', tiam oni tranĉu la bendon antaŭ ol komenciĝas la 'o'. Oni reludu la trancitan bendon (post algluo de blanka bendo).

Se oni aŭdas 'kaj', tiam ne estas diferenco.
