Does anyone know whether a modern translation of Virgil's Aeneid exists in Esperanto? I believe Dr. Henri Vallienne did one 100 years ago, but that's a bit dated! How about the works of Plato (like the Republic)?

'La respubliko' can be found here

About older translations, the only thing I can say is that the rather old translation of 'The Iliad' is still quite readable and enjoyable today. Esperanto has been fairly stable since it started (which is not necessarily bad, Icelandics can still read and understand sagas that their ancestors wrote a thousand years ago) and it usually is not a major problem to understand old Esperanto texts.

Dankon, but to download it we will have to write to Bertil W, is that right?

Well... if you click on the 'M' beside the name, you can view the text in HTML format. If you decide to view the 12 files of the whole text, to copy and paste their content into whichever text editor you utilize and to organize it the way you'd like it to look, it shouldn't take you more than an hour or so, I guess (which is possibly even shorter than dressing up, get out, go to the bookstore, search for it, stand up in line, freaking at the price they are asking for, pay and go back home, and in any case quicker than order it through the internet).

Hope this helps.

Indeed it does, thanks! I didn't realise that the M button could be used that way. I guess I need to learn to look out for push-indaj buttons, whether on websites, windows or staplers !

But try to avoid using those dangerous push-invitantaj buttons that make computers sick!

Indeed, we can't be too careful about attachments to emails for example. But are you referring to something different?

No no! You got it right the first time!

Does anyone know whether the complete E-o translation of the Aeneid by Henri Vallienne, which would probably have the title Eneido, is available online, or (even better) in print from an internet dealer?

I'm thinking of making my own sometime, gradually, in dactylic hexameter:

Prí armíloj mi kántas, káj pri la vír', kiu vénis...

Reen al la supro
