nikhil:After about 200 hours of study, I can read quite complex philosophical and sociopolitical essays without too much trouble. However, (a) these are personal interests of mine, and (b) I already know the basics of French, Italian, Spanish, German and Russian, so a lot of Esperanto's root words are already familiar to me.
Were you able to master Esperanto in less than 200 hours? Were you able to have very complex type of communication - like philosophy and sophisticated sociopolitical issues ? Where you able to read academic texts with relative ease and so on - with less than 200 hours of Esperanto learning ?
Can I communicate freely on these topics in either speech or writing? No way! I expect that I'll be able to write reasonably well on those topics in a few months, but I'm a long, long way from being able to speak fluently in real time. All of my learning so far has been alone, reading online.

If you don't calculate hours you used to master Esperanto - I think you need much less, but you will not know how much.
