Hello, I'm a Student in an American School in Johannesburg and have to do an interview for an assignment. I've been reading about Esperanto and it sounds like an interesting language, so I was wondering if anyone would be willing to be interviewed about why they learned Esperanto, where they learned it from, and how they use it in everyday life. Thanks!

I would be willing to participate in such a study. Let me know how you would like to perform the interview (email questions, skype, etc.)

I don't know what kind of sample size you're looking for, but I could post your questions in esperanto to get a wider audience if you want. I am actually curious how others found their way to the language.

You might be able to find some local speakers to interview if you check out the Amikumu app.

Thanks a lot! If you would be willing to be interviewed, I need the interview to be either by some video call platform such as Skype. I'll also check out the Amikumu app if you are unable to be interviewed. If you are able to be interviewed, please reply with what type of video call platform we could use, and then we can discuss a possible time. I don't know if Amikumu uses a type of account system but if it does, maybe we could use it to chat or something like that in order to plan. Thanks again, I really appreciate it!

I would be okay with a video call interview. Amikumu would work for coordination, but I don't know how we would find each other on the platform since it is designed to just connect you with nearby speakers of a language.

I'll figure out a video platform to use (I will need to make an account). Unfortunately I believe we have lost the ability to private message people on this site when it was updated, and it is usually a bad idea to put your email online in the open.

I'll try to get my skype account info after work today and I will post it here. The time shift will pose somewhat of a challenge, but we could probably find a time that works. How long would you expect the interview to take?

I haven't figured out my skype info, but I think it would make sense to use Telegram to coordinate the rest of the details.

This link should get you in contact with me on Telegram: https://t.me/kashperanto

Ĝis.

Ok, thanks. If you need to use a temporary and disposable email, use this website: temp-mail.org/ It has proven very useful for me in the past.

Out of curiosity, what is your time zone? My time zone is South Africa, Pretoria (UTC+02:00). The interview will probably take between 10 to 20 minutes, something like that. I'm making a Telegram account right now and will get back to you with the details. Thanks for all the help.

I don't have my phone right now so I'll have to make the account later, sorry

Thanks for the tip, I was thinking that something like that would be perfect for this scenario. If you can't get telegram working let me know and I'll just get in contact with you via email. Telegram would probably be easier to coordinate in real time, though.

I literally made my own telegram account yesterday, so I am fairly new to it. There are some Esperanto channels there, so it seems like it will be useful.

I am in Eastern Daylight Time (UTC - 4) right now (we still have daylight savings time...). That is why I was thinking the early morning my time (afternoon your time) would be best (but I don't know your schedule).

An interview at 6:00 AM my time would put it at 12:00 noon your time, if my calculations are correct.

Sorry for the late reply, I haven't got telegram working yet but I'll try again later. If we were to have the interview at 12:00 on a weekday (Monday-Friday) I'll have to ask my professor to see if I am able to take a break from class to do the interview. Otherwise, I'm free most of the time on the weekend. Thanks again
